"Why are you into beauty?"

If you want a light-hearted post, do not read further. If you are afraid of rants, just skip this post.

For people who read my blog regularly and the blogosphere we reside in beauty and beauty-items are important and a fun way for us to express ourselves. We understand that society puts a lot of pressure onto us for being attractive and young, which might be one of the reasons to indulge into cosmetics.

Only, outside the blogworld, I find myself to be criticized by my interest in beauty-items. It is deemed at being superficial and flakey. I would not dare to express my hobby at University, as I would be totally burned down by some fancy 'intellectuals' who think their past-time is sooo much better than mine. And honestly, I find this to be offensive and the double standard is incredibly obvious in those circles, as people at University value each other on attractiveness as well!

So, I do feel the need to look young and attractive...I want that lipgloss to give me a nicer pout. I am not a natural beauty as some of the people are, so I need extra help. I am not into surgery or injectables (yet), so my beauty has to come from the products I use.

As for my inner beauty: it is present! I am a beautiful person within. Only, society sees the outside first and makes its judgement and first impression based on that, which makes me sad sometimes.

I would like to know from my fellow bloggers why they are into beauty, and how their friends/collegues/family think about that? Do you confess being a beauty addict? and to whom? Do you feel judged by being too 'superficial'?

This is the reason my RL friends don't know about my blog AND the reason I hide (at least parts of) my stash when I get visitors. The notion that "interested in beauty" = stupid really bothers me. Just because I wear eyeshadow doesn't mean I'm not a damn good engineer, because I am, and I have the grades/degrees to prove it. Screw them.... seriously!

Birkie dearest, what an interesting post.

I would love to proclaim to the world that I do not give a shite what people think of my beauty stuffing fetishes. I want to try at least to always look presentable and a little pretty if I can manage to do both then BINGO!
Yes, people say that it is fakey and superficial. I say:

1. Frankly my dear I don't give a DAMN.

2. You call me fake because I want to wear make-up? I call me real because I want to and I do it. I also call me creative because I like painting my face.

3. If something makes one person a little happier, a little more confident then who the EFF is anyone to take that away from you me especially seeing how it doesn't affect anyone else?

But yes I feel the same angst (may I call it that Birkie?). The tuth is this Beauty Biznizz doesnt really sit in harmony with my brash, footie lovin', safari stomping, craft maniac, burping farting swearing personality. I we are all multi faceted beads are we not?

Oh what the heck let's quote Oscar Wilde;

"But beauty, real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins. Intellect is in itself a mode of exaggeration, and destroys the harmony of any face."

"The mind of the thoroughly well informed man- that is the modern ideal. And the mind of the thoroughly well informed man is a dreadful thing. It is like a bric a brac shop, all monsters and dust, with everything priced aove it's proper value"

OMG I blab on and on and on like ariston x

i don't tell most of my real-life folks abt my blog mostly because of the hauling. haha i don't want them to know i spend so much (by inference, that i have that money to spend, lol.) but yes, there are alot of judgemental people out there and regardless of issue, they will judge. there will be those who will criticise whether you are into beauty or if you aren't into it. most of the people i know online are really smart, and hold good jobs that earn them the money to buy all those beauty products. me? i have my papers to prove my smarts and the job i hold too. :p i just want to have fun playing sometimes and so what if it's beauty related? all the better if i also look good while i'm doing it, isn't it? attractiveness does make a difference no matter what people on high horses like to say. *high five to all beauty bloggers!* keke.

Only one of my RL friends knows about my blog. Most of my friends know that I love make-up, but they have no idea the true extent of of my collection. And the reason they don't know is because of the reactions of people, they just don't get it.

I prefer to share my love of make-up with people online who understand.

I can relate to your post! In my RL, I am a serious, well-paid professional who cannot possibly be interested in such frivolity! On the other hand, I may have given some hints by my consumption of designer bags and shoes, LOL! As a result, I dress very plainly (but I do like black cashmere).
In fact, I don't wear that much makeup, but as Glow says, I find a creative outlet in painting my face!
I'm glad I've found some like-minded souls in the blogosphere who enjoy beauty as much as I do.

Everyone says I look so young...I don't stay that way by plastering cheap skincare and makeup on my face!!

I do agree with everyone that I have to hide my naughty addiction from most people, because they just would not understand!!

Jamal is very helpful though, he goes to the Post Office with all my makeup shipments to my fellow bloggers!
